We all have a favourite season in the year, and for me, I find it incredibly challenging to choose between Autumn and Winter. Each season brings its own unique charm and a plethora of experiences that I cherish deeply. As Fall approaches, I can feel a sense of excitement building within me, as if the very air is charged with anticipation for the delights that lie ahead.

During this enchanting time of year, I find myself eagerly engaging in activities that I truly enjoy, which are often best suited to the crisp, cool weather. The vibrant hues of orange, red, and gold that adorn the trees create a breathtaking backdrop for outdoor excursions. I love taking long walks in the park, where the fallen leaves crunch beneath my feet, filling the air with the earthy aroma of nature preparing for the winter months ahead.

As the temperature begins to drop, the transition in wardrobe becomes a delightful ritual. I eagerly pull out my cozy sweaters, scarves, and boots, relishing the warmth that these garments provide. The act of layering up not only keeps me warm but also adds an element of style and comfort that I look forward to each year.

This time of year is synonymous with various seasonal traditions and festivities that bring people together. From pumpkin spice lattes to the joy of Halloween, there is a sense of community and celebration that permeates the air. I relish the opportunity to decorate my home with autumnal motifs, creating an inviting atmosphere that reflects the beauty of the season.

Some of these traditions I’ve made for myself are -

1) Going to coffee shops and working on my blog.

As silly as it may sound, this simple pleasure has become one of my absolute favourite activities during the enchanting autumn months. Now, you might be thinking, "Chantelle, what are you talking about? You can enjoy this all year round!" While that is indeed true, for me, coffee shops during the summer are typically bustling with life. They are always packed with people, filled with the sounds of chatter, laughter, and the constant clinking of cups and saucers. This lively atmosphere, while vibrant, can often become overwhelming, making it difficult for me to concentrate on the work I need to accomplish. The relentless hustle and bustle can be quite distracting, and I find myself struggling to focus amidst the energetic crowd. However, as the crisp autumn months roll in, the dynamic shifts dramatically. People seem to have a different mindset; they tend to want to quickly grab a hot drink and continue on their way, eager to escape the chill in the air. This seasonal change leads to a delightful transformation in coffee shops, which generally become much quieter and more serene. I relish the opportunity to find a cozy spot, usually nestled in a corner of the shop by the window, where I can enjoy a steaming cup of coffee while observing the world outside. There’s something magical about watching the rain dance against the glass or feeling the gusts of wind as they rustle through the trees, which are now adorned with vibrant hues of orange, red, and gold as the leaves begin to change colour and fall. It creates a picturesque backdrop that enhances my experience. Armed with my tablet and a couple of notebooks, I settle in with my hot coffee and a delicious warm sandwich, and I find this combination to be both incredibly relaxing and invigorating. It’s a welcome change from my usual surroundings, allowing me to escape the confines of my home and immerse myself in a different, yet comforting, environment.

In addition to my solitary visits to coffee shops, I also cherish the moments spent there with my fiancé. Going on a coffee date during the autumn months feels uniquely special. There’s an undeniable charm to sharing a cozy space with someone you love while enjoying the seasonal ambiance. The warmth of the coffee contrasts beautifully with the cool air outside, and the intimacy of the setting fosters deeper conversations and connection. The atmosphere of a coffee shop in autumn just seems to hit differently; it feels more inviting, more intimate, and more conducive to creating lasting memories together. Whether it’s sharing a slice of pumpkin spice cake or simply enjoying each other’s company while watching the world go by, these moments become cherished highlights of the season.

2) Autumn cleaning

As weird as it sounds, I truly find joy in preparing my home for the changing seasons, particularly when it comes to getting everything ready for autumn. There is something incredibly satisfying about deep cleaning the house and transitioning from the light, airy vibes of summer to the warm, cozy atmosphere that autumn brings. The process of transforming my living space is not just about aesthetics; it’s about creating an environment that feels inviting and comforting as the days grow shorter and the temperatures begin to drop.

Deep cleaning is an essential part of this seasonal ritual. I start by decluttering every room, sorting through items that I no longer need or use, and creating a more organized and serene space. Dusting surfaces, vacuuming carpets, and scrubbing floors are all part of the process. Each task, while labor-intensive, contributes to a sense of renewal and freshness in my home. With each corner I clean, I can feel the energy shift, making way for the comforting ambiance that autumn embodies.

Once the cleaning is complete, I move on to the fun part: decorating and changing out my summer items for autumn-themed ones. The scent of pumpkin spice, combined with the crispness of cool air, creates a nostalgic atmosphere that makes my home feel like a haven. I carefully select various decorative elements, such as candles, that not only enhance the scent but also add visual warmth to my surroundings.

Next, I focus on updating my bedding and soft furnishings. I swap out my lightweight summer linens for plush, heavier blankets in rich autumn colours. Shades of orange, brown, and white come together to create a harmonious palette that reflects the natural beauty of the season. I love layering my bed with soft, cozy blankets and an assortment of pillows that invite relaxation. Each pillow, with its unique texture and colour, adds depth to the space, making it feel both stylish and comfortable.

The transformation of my home from dull and normal to something so much more special is a rewarding experience. As I step back to admire my work, I can see how the changes have turned my living space into a comforting sanctuary. The combination of deep cleaning, seasonal scents, and cozy decor creates an atmosphere that encourages relaxation and togetherness. It becomes a place where I can unwind after a long day, enjoy warm drinks, and perhaps even host friends and family for gatherings filled with laughter and warmth.

In essence, this seasonal transition is about more than just aesthetics; it’s about crafting a space that nurtures my spirit and celebrates the beauty of autumn. The love I have for getting autumn ready goes beyond mere chores; it’s a cherished ritual that allows me to express my creativity and embrace the seasonal changes that come with each passing year.

3) Movie nights

Now again, yes, this is something that can be done all year round, but there is something uniquely enchanting about movie nights and TV show marathons that truly hit differently in the autumn months. As the seasons change, the atmosphere shifts, and the experience of curling up on the couch with a good film or series becomes more than just a pastime; it transforms into a cherished ritual. For instance, during the sweltering summer months, trying to stay cool and relaxed in a hot British home can be quite a challenge. The oppressive heat often makes it difficult to unwind, as I find myself preoccupied with the discomfort of being overheated, which distracts from any attempt to enjoy a film or binge-watch a series. However, as autumn arrives, the air grows crisper and cooler, bringing with it a sense of comfort and coziness that is simply irresistible. The transformation of my environment plays a significant role in enhancing the overall experience of watching movies or shows. Picture this: the rain begins to fall heavier outside, creating a soothing soundtrack that complements the cozy ambiance of my living room. I find myself sinking into the plush cushions of my sofa, dressed comfortably in soft leggings and a warm jumper, snuggled under a thick, cozy blanket that wraps around me like a warm hug. With the warmth of the fire crackling nearby, casting a gentle glow across the room, I hold a steaming cup of tea in one hand or perhaps a large glass of white wine, savouring the flavours that are so comforting during this time of year. I often indulge in my favourite cold weather meals, which add to the overall coziness of the evening. As I settle in, the anticipation of diving into a beloved show or film fills me with excitement. Harry Potter is an absolute must for me during this season; the magical world of Hogwarts and the enchanting stories of friendship and adventure perfectly resonate with the autumnal spirit. Gilmore Girls is another definite choice, with its heartwarming dialogues and charming small-town setting that feels like home. And then there’s Suits, a series that captivates me every autumn with its sharp wit and engaging plotlines, making it the perfect companion for those chilly evenings. Each of these shows and films not only entertains but also evokes nostalgia, making my autumn movie nights a delightful escape from reality, filled with warmth, laughter, and a sense of belonging.

4) Baking

I adore baking, but finding the time to indulge in this delightful hobby can be quite challenging, especially with the demands of daily life pulling me in various directions. The allure of the kitchen, with its warm, inviting atmosphere and the sweet aromas that waft through the air, often beckons me to carve out moments for this cherished activity. Nevertheless, I find joy in both solitary and social baking experiences.

When I choose to bake alone, it becomes a therapeutic escape. I relish the opportunity to immerse myself in the process, often accompanied by my favorite playlist. The gentle melodies and rhythmic beats create a soothing backdrop as I measure out flour, sugar, and other ingredients. The act of mixing, kneading, and whisking not only allows me to express my creativity but also provides a sense of mindfulness, where I can lose myself in the moment. In these solitary sessions, I might stream a cooking show or a documentary on my tablet, gaining inspiration from the techniques and recipes showcased, all while the kitchen fills with the enticing scent of freshly baked goods.

On the other hand, I also cherish the times I spend baking with my closest friends. These gatherings transform the kitchen into a lively hub of laughter and camaraderie. As we don our aprons and gather around the counter, we share stories, reminisce about past adventures, and create new memories. The atmosphere is filled with joy as we dance to our favorite songs, letting the music guide our movements while we measure and mix. Together, we whip up an array of delicious treats, from classic pumpkin pie, rich with spices and a flaky crust, to an assortment of cookies, each batch unique with its own flavors and textures. Brownies, too, find their way into our baking sessions, with some being fudgy and others cake-like, depending on our mood and cravings.

The process of baking becomes not just about creating delectable desserts but also about nurturing friendships and building connections. Each recipe we tackle together is a new adventure, and the shared experience of waiting for the oven timer to go off adds an element of excitement and anticipation. Once the treats are ready, we often indulge in a taste test, celebrating our successes and laughing over any mishaps. These moments spent in the kitchen, whether alone or with friends, enrich my life and remind me of the simple joys that baking can bring.

5) cozy blankets and video games with my fiancé

During this time of year, I absolutely love spending evenings with my fiancé, snuggled on the sofa under warm blankets while playing video games. We enjoy co-op games that require teamwork. These cozy nights are perfect when it's chilly outside, allowing us to cuddle under the blanket and enjoy our time together. While going out for a date night can be fun despite the crowds, staying in with my partner, just the two of us relaxing and heading to bed early, is one of the best autumn activities. The cooler weather in the UK lets us cuddle up without the oppressive heat, savor each other's company, indulge in some guilty-pleasure snacks, and enjoy a hot chocolate before bed.

6) Autumn mornings

As I work my 40 hours at my job, which I manage over the course of three shifts each week, I am fortunate enough to enjoy four delightful days off for myself. This time is incredibly precious, especially during the colder months when the world outside transforms into a winter wonderland. One of my favorite routines begins right after I send my fiancé off to work in the morning.

Once he has left, I take a moment to relish the quietness of the house. I love to slip into my warm and comfortable clothing, which usually consists of soft leggings that feel like a gentle hug against my skin, my fluffy slippers that keep my feet warm and cozy, and a big, oversized jumper that envelops me in warmth. This attire not only provides comfort but also sets the tone for a relaxed day ahead.

After dressing comfortably, I make my way upstairs with a steaming hot cup of coffee in hand. The aroma of the freshly brewed coffee fills the air, awakening my senses and preparing me for the day. I take a moment to make my bed, smoothing out the covers and fluffing the pillows, creating a tidy and inviting space. Once that task is complete, I open the windows to let in the crisp, cold air, which invigorates the room and fills it with a refreshing chill that contrasts with the warmth of my clothing.

I then settle into my favorite spot, either at my desk or on the sofa, allowing myself a few moments to fully wake up. The combination of the cold air and my warm drink creates a perfect balance, and I take my time to enjoy the tranquility of the morning. After savoring my coffee, I often find myself indulging in various activities. Sometimes, I dive into my computer to catch up on emails or explore new interests, while other times I might choose to watch some television, getting lost in a good show. Additionally, I love to immerse myself in a book, allowing the pages to transport me to different worlds and experiences.

Eventually, as the morning progresses, I slip on my Ugg boots, which are both stylish and practical for the chilly weather. With my furry companion eagerly awaiting our adventure, I take my dog for a walk, which is one of my favorite parts of the day. There is something truly magical about walking my dog in the crisp air, feeling the bite of the cold on my cheeks while being surrounded by the beauty of nature as it transitions into Autumn. The trees, now full of many different coloured leaves, create a stark yet beautiful silhouette against the sky, and I often marvel at how the landscape changes with the seasons.

As we stroll through the neighbourhood, I take in the sights and sounds of the world around us. The crunch of leaves underfoot, and the occasional sighting of other dog walkers create a sense of community and connection. I cherish these moments, feeling grateful for the simple pleasures that life offers, and I find immense joy in observing how the world transforms with each passing season.

7) Nails

Choosing what nails to get is an activity I enjoy year-round, but there's something particularly special about autumn nails that makes this seasonal choice stand out. The arrival of autumn brings with it a beautiful transformation in nature, as leaves turn vibrant shades of red, orange, brown, and purple. These colours inspire my nail art choices, allowing me to express the spirit of the season through my fingertips.

As the days grow shorter and the air turns crisp, I find myself gravitating towards warm, earthy tones that reflect the richness of the fall landscape. A deep crimson red can evoke the feeling of cozy evenings spent by the fire, while a burnt orange can remind me of the pumpkins that dot the fields during harvest time. Brown hues can represent the earthy tones of fallen leaves, grounding my look in the beauty of nature. Meanwhile, deep purples can add a touch of elegance and mystery, reminiscent of twilight skies filled with the promise of cooler nights.

8) Hot drinks

Yes, drinking hot drinks can be done all year round, and many people enjoy this comforting ritual regardless of the season. However, as someone who truly struggles with the oppressive heat of summer, I find that indulging in hot beverages during those sweltering months feels like one of my worst nightmares. The thought of sipping on a steaming cup of coffee or tea when the temperatures are soaring can be quite overwhelming. Instead, during the summer, I prefer to stick to refreshing cold drinks and iced lattes, which provide a much-needed respite from the heat while still allowing me to enjoy my favorite flavors. The contrast between the warmth of a hot drink and the heat of a summer day creates an uncomfortable experience that I try to avoid at all costs.

However, there is a special tradition that I cherish deeply, one that involves my partner and our weekly excursions into town every Saturday to do our grocery shopping. This ritual has become a cherished part of our routine, and it holds a significant place in our hearts. We met during the autumn and winter months, a time when the air is crisp, and the atmosphere is filled with the cozy scents of seasonal spices and warm beverages. As the weather turns cooler, we love to indulge in hot drinks, savoring the warmth as we stroll through the local market. The experience of holding a steaming cup of cocoa or a rich latte while navigating through the vibrant stalls is something I always look forward to. It’s not just about the drinks themselves; it’s about the memories we create together, the laughter we share, and the connections we foster with our friends at the market.

Each Saturday becomes a mini adventure, where we explore the various vendors, sampling fresh produce, artisanal bread, and homemade pastries, all while enjoying the delightful company of our friends. The local market is a hub of activity, filled with the sounds of laughter and chatter, the colors of fresh fruits and vegetables, and the delightful aromas wafting through the air. There’s something magical about the transition from the hot summer days to the cooler autumn weather that makes our Saturday outings even more special. As the leaves begin to change and the air turns crisp, I find myself eagerly anticipating the return of our beloved hot drinks, ready to embrace the season with open arms and a warm cup in hand.

9) Autumn and winter movies.

As silly as it may sound I love watching certain movies and TV shows depending on the time of year. Some of my go to shows and movies for these months are shows that I find give me a cozy and relaxed feeling which goes so well with this time of year.

Gilmore Girls - Gilmore girls for me is great for those relaxing time in front of the TV. As the show is mainly set in the autumn/ winter time it sets a cozy atmosphere that enhances the autumn months.

Gossip Girl - Gossip Girl is another one of those shows, much like Gilmore Girls, that envelops me in a warm, cozy blanket of nostalgia and comfort. The series, set against the glamorous backdrop of Manhattan's elite, offers a glimpse into the lives of privileged teenagers navigating love, friendship, and betrayal. The witty dialogue and dramatic plot twists keep me engaged, while the stunning visuals of the city create a soothing atmosphere. The characters, each with their own unique quirks and story arcs, draw me in and make me feel as if I'm part of their world. The show has a certain charm that resonates with me, making it the perfect backdrop for those moments when I want to unwind and escape into a world of high fashion and youthful drama.

Friends - Friends is truly a classic that has stood the test of time, resonating with countless viewers around the globe. It is one of my all-time favorite shows and serves as a comforting presence in my life. The relatable struggles and triumphs of the characters, along with their strong bonds of friendship, create a sense of familiarity that feels like home. Whether I’m tidying up around the house, preparing a meal, or simply lounging on the couch, the laughter and heartwarming moments from the series provide an incredible sense of comfort. I often find that the show's themes of love, friendship, and personal growth perfectly capture the essence of both the autumn and summer months, evoking feelings of nostalgia and warmth that make me cherish those seasons even more.

Hocus Pocus - I have to admit that I wasn’t always a massive fan of Hocus Pocus; in fact, it took me a while to fully appreciate its charm. However, my fiancé has been a long-time admirer of this delightful Halloween classic, and over time, it has transformed into a cherished tradition for us to watch this movie together. Each Halloween, we gather with a bowl of popcorn and settle in for a cozy evening filled with laughter and nostalgia. As we watch the Sanderson sisters wreak havoc on the unsuspecting town, I find myself not only enjoying the whimsical story but also cherishing the moments we share as a couple. This film has now taken on a special significance in my heart, symbolizing our bond and the joy of creating new traditions together.

Nightmare Before Christmas - The Nightmare Before Christmas is another film that holds a special place in my heart, primarily because of my fiancé's love for it. Initially, I appreciated the movie's unique animation style and the captivating story, but it wasn’t one that I would seek out to watch every year. I would typically catch it if it happened to be on TV or if I had friends over for a movie night. However, my partner's enthusiasm for the film has changed my perspective, and now, it has become a staple in our autumn and winter viewing schedule. No matter the time of year, my fiancé has a penchant for revisiting this enchanting tale, and we make it a point to watch it together at least once during the cozy fall and winter months. The blend of Halloween and Christmas themes, along with the memorable songs and characters, creates a magical experience that I now look forward to sharing with him every year.

10) The rain

Living in the UK, one cannot escape the frequent rain showers that characterize the climate, especially during the autumn and winter months. The persistent drizzle and occasional downpour are often seen as a nuisance, yet I find a unique charm in the rain during this time of year. The crispness of the air, combined with the gentle sound of raindrops tapping against windows, creates a soothing atmosphere that I deeply appreciate.

In contrast, summer rains tend to be accompanied by sweltering heat, which can be quite uncomfortable. The oppressive humidity that often precedes these summer storms makes the experience less enjoyable. The heavy, muggy air can leave one feeling sticky and irritable, overshadowing the refreshing relief that the rain might otherwise bring. It’s a stark difference from the cooler, more refreshing rains of autumn and winter, which seem to cleanse the atmosphere and bring a sense of renewal.

During the autumn months, as the leaves change colour and begin to fall, the rain takes on a different quality. The sound of rain falling on the ground, mixed with the rustling of fallen leaves, creates a symphony that is both calming and invigorating. I relish the opportunity to curl up at home with a warm blanket, a steaming cup of tea, or perhaps a rich hot chocolate, while the rain dances outside. The cozy ambiance encourages introspection and creativity, making it the perfect backdrop for various activities.

Whether I’m nestled in bed trying to drift off to sleep, the rhythmic patter of rain lulling me into a peaceful slumber, or sitting in a quaint cafe with a good book or my laptop, the rain serves as a comforting soundtrack to my life. I find joy in writing on my blog during these rainy days, as the sound of the rain provides a gentle white noise that helps me focus and inspires my thoughts. It creates a perfect cocoon of warmth and creativity, allowing me to delve deep into my writing without distractions.

Watching a movie while rain cascades down outside enhances the experience as well. The combination of the film’s narrative and the rain’s soft murmurs creates an immersive environment that draws me in completely. It’s a time when I can lose myself in stories, both fictional and personal, as the world outside becomes a blurred backdrop to my cozy sanctuary.

In essence, the rain during the autumn and winter months holds a special place in my heart. It transforms ordinary moments into cherished experiences, allowing me to embrace the beauty of solitude and reflection. Each raindrop seems to carry with it a sense of peace and comfort, reminding me of the simple joys found in the rhythm of nature and the warmth of home.
